Review of funding proposals ahead of the 46th Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board

Published

Prior to the GCF Board meetings, the Helpdesk supports Sida in reviewing funding proposals that will be discussed and decided on by the Board. Ahead of the 46th Board meeting, taking place on 26-29 October, the Helpdesk supported Sida with reviewing 17 of the 21 proposals to be considered.

During the 46th Board meeting, the Board will decide on these new climate action projects covering adaptation, mitigation and cross-cutting issues, as well as accreditation proposals for new partners and policies for the GCF’s third replenishment. The upcoming Board meeting is less than two weeks before the start of COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, and is the last Board meeting of the year. As a contributor to and active partner of the GCF, Sweden provides comments on proposals, and several Swedish actors, including Sida, support the process.

The Green Climate Fund

GCF is a critical element of the historic Paris Agreement. GCF is the world’s largest climate fund, mandated to support developing countries to raise and realize their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) ambitions towards low-emissions, climate-resilient pathways. GCF is mandated to invest 50% of its resources to mitigation and 50% to adaptation in grant equivalent. At least half of its adaptation resources must be invested in the most climate vulnerable countries (SIDS, LDCs, and African States). Learn more about GCF at the GCF website.

Sweden has been a long-term contributor to GCF. Access Sweden’s Strategy for Cooperation with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) 2023–2026 here (in Swedish). Sweden is currently serving as the GCF Board co-chair.
